Travelling the World on A Budget

A lot of people wish they could travel around the world and learn about new cultures, but there is one thing that often gets in their way. Money. It’s hard to save money anyway but saving up for a trip that involves seeing multiple countries at once seems impossible. Some people believe that travelling the world is only an option for the rich and famous, but that doesn’t have to be the case at all.

In fact, many people manage to make travelling work for them even if they don’t have a lot of money,to begin with. Of course, there are expenses that you need to pay for such as travel insurance and the flights there, but there are ways to travel the world on a budget and these are some of the best.

Work While Travelling

If you think that money is going to be an issue when travelling, you can decide to work different jobs along the way. If you plan on staying in a certain country for a little while, there are certain jobs that would be perfect for you to do. A lot of people are looking for an au pair, which is someone who can look after a family’s children and do basic housekeeping, or you could work in a bar or club in the evenings. In some foreign countries, schools are always looking for English teachers to teach children and it is relatively easy. You could even do farm work, which can help you make a lot of money quickly.

Rent a Campervan

Instead of flying from one place to another or taking trains, which can cost a lot of money, you can rent a campervan. It doesn’t have to be anything too expensive, but it gives you the freedom to travel wherever you want on a budget. This is great if you want to travel to one country such as Australia or the USA and have a few destinations in mind. It doesn’t matter if you end up wanting to stay in one place for longer as you are living in the campervan.

Shop in Supermarkets and Cook Meals Yourself

Eating out when travelling can become very expensive if you aren’t careful. If you want to save lots of money, then you are better off going to a supermarket and buying all the ingredients you need to cook your breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will also get to experiment by cooking some of the local delicacies. All the money that would have been spent on going out to restaurants can then be put towards going on tours and taking part in fun activities.

Stay in Hostels

If you are wanting to stay somewhere overnight, you are better off staying away from hotels. If you are staying in one every night, the cost of your trip is going to keep going up and up. Instead, stay in a hostel, which is comprised of large dorm rooms that are much cheaper. While there may not be much privacy in the rooms, you will be able to meet likeminded people and even make new friends that you could travel with.

Avoid the Cities

Visiting a country is about more than seeing the big cities. It is about exploring the hidden beaches and visiting national parks where you can hike and become one with nature. The great outdoors isoften much cheaper to explore as well, but that doesn’t mean you can’t visit the must-see cities on your travels.

Plan Ahead

Before you even set foot on a plane to fly to your destination, you should plan ahead so you know what you will be doing on your trip. If you want to be prepared for how much money you will spend on the trip, make a list of all the places or things you want to do that will cost money. You might need to compromise if something is out of your budget, but you can always replace it with something that is equally amazing and a lot cheaper.

Visit Cheap Destinations

This may seem obvious, but the best way to travel the world on a budget is to visit destinations that are cheaper. There are certain countries or cities that will naturally be more expensive. Visiting Paris or Barcelona is going to be more expensive than Thailand and South America, so choose your travel destinations wisely. The best part about visiting a cheaper country is that your money will spread further in regard to travel, food and doing touristy things.

As you can see from this list, travelling the world doesn’t have to be expensive and anyone can do it if they want to.
